The crotch and the seat before and after

Today I'm looking at the front and back of the jeans before and after the wash. The crotch and the seat areas as they say.

You'll notice, as always, the shiny-ness of the before photos on the left, and the matt colour of the after photos on the right. Then the standard colouration that happens because of the wash. The other thing is that the folds which is clearly shown on the left are now just marks on the right. Tomorrow I'll show photos of the knees fron and back, where you can see it more clearly.

Day 80 Back Pockets

So here I am, on day 80, nearly half way, and so far looking good. I did mention this before, that it's going to be tougher to not just keep them clean during summer, but dry. Once a smell starts you need to take extra care. I try and hang them inside out and open every night. Not easy to do or remember for that matter. But so far the back side pockets show some good wear, but not yet tear.

Day 41 Back pockets

41 days in and there's already a lot of permanent wear on these jeans. Not sure why, but all my jeans have this weird crease right under both back pockets. I'll publish some pic of all the others to show you what I mean. Must be from sitting.

Day 192 | The back pockets before and after

Here's two more high resolution images comparing the back pockets. I still can't believe there's so much difference in the jeans. The top photo is with 6 months worth of wear and no wash (day 182). The bottom photo is on the following day (day 183), after the wash.

The jeans have even changed colour slightly. They started off as Blue/Black, and now has become a little lighter and bluer. The shrinking has worked wonders. I have them on again today, just because they really are my favourite pair at the moment, having spent a full 6 months in them and nothing else, and they fit perfectly. I would highly recommend doing the same. Not necessarily wearing them every day for 6 months as I did, but alternating between them and maybe 2 other pairs for perhaps a year, then washing them. The fit will be real good.

Day 185 | The back pockets (5th comparison)

I wanted to show before and after photographs, but decided to rather carry on with my comparison series, which show the jeans in the process of getting older and older and more worn in. I have now included the comparison from the last day I wore the jeans before the wash, and the first day after the wash. Now there's seven photographs taken on the beginning of every month in the past 6 months.

There's a big difference between the washed and unwashed pair in the last two images. The washed jeans are not as shiny and the creases and folds are now only light blue lines on the washed jeans. The shrinking caused the material to tighten quite a bit. Tomorrow I'll compare the inner seams.

Day 156 | The back pockets (4th comparison)

Here we go with the 4th comparison series. Today I show the back pockets and how they've changed over the past 156 days. Tomorrow is the inner seams, then the front pockets, then bottom hems and ending off with the button holes.

I had a look at another blog called Evolution, where the guy, Mark, shows his comparisons from the first day, to 5 months, and the change is by far more than mine is, and I wear my jeans every day. Given I'm taking it easy, because they're not being washed, but still. If you compare mine from day 1 to today's photo, then you can see how much more shiny they are. There's a lot more creases, and lines. But when you look at them all together the change is more gradual.

The photographs are in order from the beginning of each month, one, two, three, four, all the way to now, month five. It's when I look at them like this that I'm still contemplating going on for a full year, and not stopping at 6 months.

Day 122 | The back pockets (3rd comparison)

Here we go with the 3rd set of comparison photographs for the past 122 days. As usual I'll start with the back pockets, followed by the inner seams tomorrow.

The backside is a lot more shiny, which probably means greasy. There's also a lot more creases all over. There's not a lot of light blueish wear marks, but just enough to see that they're not new anymore. I still remember the feel of the raw denim on day 1. That's all gone now. The first photo of the four is from day 14, then day 57, followed by day 90 and then finally today. The denim itself is also very much more stretched. I have started wearing a belt every now and then. You know, just to keep them from falling down to my knees in public.

Day 90 | The back pockets (2nd comparison)

Here's the start of my second series of comparisons, such as I did on day 57 - day 61. The pictures on the left is from day 14, the middle picture is from day 57 and the right hand picture is from today, day 90. I'm trying to do this at the beginning of each month.

As you can see, the jeans are by far more shiny, not just from the wear, but also from not washing them. Today is basically halfway, with 91 days to go before the first wash, so I have worn them every day for past 90 days. I have noticed a lot more wear during the past month, than any of the two months before that. As if the wear accelerates as it gets past a certain point.

There's a lot more light blue patches on the corners of the pockets where I sit, and a lot more permanent looking creases, that don't look like they're ever going to be smooth again.

Tomorrow I'll be looking at the inner seams, which have shown lots more wear too, from chafing against each other everyday.

Day 57 | The back pockets (1st comparison)

Here's the first set of comparisons I promised. The photos on the left-side are from 2 weeks of wear, and taken on day 14, whilst the photos on the right-side, were taken today, on day 57. So about a month and a half difference, and the jeans were worn every day.

Not a lot you can pick up from the photos, except for the creases which appear more permanent over the pockets and on the inner thigh. The raw denim itself, appears more smooth, or shiny if you will. Probably from sitting on it every day. Not sure if it's my eyes, or the photo, but the denim appears a bit less blue. I know that the original colour was Blue Black, but even now with the naked eye, the denim appears a bit "less" blue. It may be just that the denim appears more shiny from the wear. A comparison at the end of next month should reveal a lot more.

I've also noticed today that the seams on the inner, lower leg, have started to show wear from chafing against each other. Will take some photos of that for tomorrow.

Day 55 | Comparing the creases

Been having a look at the changes in the creases behind the knees. The first photo was taken after 2 weeks of wear, where the second and third one was taken after 6 weeks of wear.

For me the creases in the white photo don't look so permanent yet. The creases are a bit rounded and looks like it'll be easy to iron them out. Not that I'm going to bring an iron close to my jeans. The creases on the jeans on the wooden floor, however, look a bit more permanent, with sharper edges, and they don't seem so easy to remove.

It's interesting to see the changes in the jeans when you compare photos one month apart. I think I'll do that at the beginning of each month, by comparing the knees, front and back, the hems, the button holes, the pockets, front and back, the creases below the front pockets, as well as any other permanent marks that may have started to appear. Just to see if there will perhaps be a really big change in the denim after six months of daily wear.

Day 32 | More pockets

As you can see the back pockets on the left are as the ones on the left, like I showed yesterday. The back is a bit more stretched, with creases all over the place.

The front change pocket is, as the back of the knees, very creased. I do have a problem with the small change pocket in the front. I am someone who has a front pocket wallet. The wallet is small, and I do not carry change with me, so the change pocket never has any change in it. My wallet does not fit in it either.

I'll show a bit more on my wallet and the marks it made on my Evisu/Puma jeans, tomorrow, plus how they solved the front pocket wallet problem.

Day 31 | Back pockets

I want to look a bit at the pockets. Today we'll do the back pockets. Nothing really fancy here. I mean you know what some companies do to the back pockets.

Have a look at Victoria Beckam's back pockets. Not that I want to bring that style of jeans into this blog, but as an example of how far some companies go with the back pockets. I have a pair of Evisu jeans, and they have the big M on both pockets in baby blue. I prefer nothing on the pockets, with maybe a little bit of stylish stitching, but not too much.

Back pockets for me are very important. Let me tell you why. It's because of where they sit. On your bum. If the pockets are too small it can make your bum look too big, and that's why you should take care, when you buy your next pair of jeans. Not that we should be so conscious about our looks. I do however like the pockets on these jeans, because there's no big crown on them that will make everyone look at your bum.
