Day 129 | It's weekend

I did a search for Dr.Denim Jeans under Google's blog search and came up with some stuff.

They're mostly just an introduction to Dr.Denim Jeans and some photos about new products, because as I've found out, not a lot of people have ever heard of the brand. Not even here in Gothenburg where it originates from. My survey to the right seems very even at the moment with 53 no and 41 yes, which is like I said not what I've experienced when asking people myself.

Here's some links to them:
jeansuk.com
kitmeout.com
happypeopledontcomplain.blogspot.com
denimology.co.uk
bizarrepdx.blogspot.com
wondermomo.blogspot.com

And I never got round to cleaning the mud and snow off my jeans today because I've been too busy. Tomorrow it's weekend, so I have some more time.

Day 37 | A visit to Dr.Denim

I've been asked before, why I started this blog. The answer is simply, because I thought it would be a good idea to test a product in this way. Plus I like writing, and I especially like learning about things, that I don't know anything about, like denim.

I am not paid by Dr.Denim to write about them, although the thought of doing this as a paid job, has crossed my mind. I paid for these jeans, because I thought it was a really good price, for a really good pair of jeans.

And so it was with writing this blog everyday, that I received an email from Alexander, one of the brothers who run Dr.Denim, inviting me over to their "new" offices here in Gothenburg, to meet them and to see what it is that they do. It was a really good meeting the people who actually designed my jeans. I'll, hopefully, be over there again in a couple of days, to shoot some photos, which I'll publish here for you to see. It was great that I got invited, and really great that they show a real interest in the people who love their products.

It was an inspiration meeting people, who really love what they're doing.

Day 34 | More front pockets

My day started off really good. By really good, I mean I had coffee from the start. Usually an Americano from Condeco (Double espresso with extra boiling water). Condeco is not my favourite coffee place in Gothenburg, but it helps that they have a free Wi-Fi connection. It's good to get out a little bit in the mornings, especially if you work from home. Read the newspaper, check your emails, see some people and drink your coffee. The newspaper in my case is the Sesam, which is a Swedish newspaper written in really easy to understand Swedish. Every article has all the difficult words at the end of it, in a sort of dictionary, so you can learn as you read. Have a look at their website for more info.

Here's two more photos of the change pocket in the front, that I spoke about yesterday. As you might have noticed how the denim changes colour, dependant on where the photograph was taken. It's usually in our lounge, but sometimes you can't choose the lighting in a coffee shop, restaurant or street, and have to make do with what you have.

Day 29 | More creases in the denim

As I said I would on Day 27 about the progress of my Dr.Denim Harris Blue Black Raw jeans so far, here are more photos.

The creases below the front pockets look very permanent already. Must be from sitting in front of my laptop all day. No colour change as yet, or maybe just a little, but I didn't expect much after only 29 days. The denim is much softer now and is still really nice on, and the feel is great.

We had some rain today, but fortunately got nothing on me. The weather forecast have predicted the first snow up north in Sweden, and it made me think of how the denim will handle lots of snow, all the wetness, and the cold. We'll see in two months time, when we expect our first snow here in Gothenburg.

Day 2 | The interview

Been living in Sweden for just over a year now, and have finished studying Swedish in June. Now I'm looking for some web consulting work here in Gothenburg. Have a look at my portfolio, to see what I do www.darryldesign.com.

Today I had an interview with Poolia. They're a recruitment company that also hire's out their own consultants. Hopefully things will start looking up from here. So the jeans and I went along for our first inteview today.

Day 1 | The purchase

Today I went down to Red Devil, one of my favourite clothing stores in Gothenburg. I wasn't really planning on buying anything, but if I was, it was going to be a new pair of jeans. My usual size is 34L 32W, and so I tried on my first pair from a then, unknown company to me, called Dr.DenimJeansmakers. The quality felt real good, and the pair I tried on was called Harris Blue Black Raw. By raw they mean unwashed and very dark.

The jeans fitted real well, and when I spoke to the shop assistant he said I can expect shrinkage in the range of 2cm, when I wash them the first time. The other thing which was really appealing to me was the fact that they were priced at 499kr. Not too bad, for a good pair of jeans, in Sweden, where you can pay up to 2500kr for a pair easily, if not higher.

After paying, I went back to the change rooms and slipped into my new pair of jeans. I dumped my old pair of H&M jeans in the bag and headed out for my first trip into town, with the new jeans. Later that night when I returned from watching The Dark Knight, with my little sister, I decided to find out more about this company called Dr.Denim. I went online to check out their website.

In a nutshell, they're a family owned business from Gothenburg, with a passion for making jeans. Each button on my pair has an engraving which reads "A good pair of jeans is like a member of the family". I then read on their "About us" page on page 60 of the book, that "Whether the jeans are washed or unwashed, they should preferably not meet detergents and washing machines, at least not for the first six months". That's why i decided to start this experiment, and blog, to keep track of my new jeans and their life, over the next six months.

The test: Wear the same pair of jeans for 6 months, everyday, before washing them for the first time.
